Local people in waders and wellies turned out in force on Saturday to give a helping hand in litter picking at Swanpool Beach and Nature Reserve...
Supplied with black bags, litter pickers and gloves volunteers spent several hours picking up various detritus that had been dumped into the Nature Reserve over the summer months.
Gary Thomson of the Swanpool Forum helped organise proceedings and was very happy with the result:
“We managed to collect over 25 bin bags full of rubbish, which will have made a huge difference to the wildlife on the pool. I was delighted by the turn out of volunteers, it just goes to show how committed people are to preserving the beautiful environment we live in”
Pete Lochrie of Swanpool Beach commented:
“It really was astonishing what was actually pulled out of the pool, everything from the usual drinks cans and crisp packets you would expect, but we unearthed signs and tyres, car parts, batteries etc as well. I would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to come and help, it really has made a difference and has become a firm annual event.”
